Erectile Dysfunction & cardiovascular events
Erectile dysfunction is when the male body is sexually aroused two chemicals are produced0 cyclic GMP, which causes the muscles in the arterial wall of the penis to relax allowing an erection and phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE-5, which decreases erections. Two chemicals are produced by the male body whilst sexually aroused - Cyclic GMP (cGMP ), which causes the muscles in the arterial wall of the penis to relax allowing blood to flow in and phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE-5) which decreases erections. Treatments are available for erectile dysfunction that works by reducing inhibiting PDE-5 and allowing increased blood flow to a man’s penis. When a man then becomes sexually aroused the PDE5 is disabled and a man is able to get and maintain an erection as the cGMP does not break down and the blood is able to increase. This increases a man’s confidence and allowing him to enjoy a regular and healthy sex life.
There are estimated to be 100 million men worldwide that suffer from erectile dysfunction (ED).
One common cause of ED is damages to nerves and arteries. These cause the man’s erection to not occur due to problems with reduced blood flow. Alcohol and smoking hinder this. There are other lifestly choices which can have a negative effect and increase ED, such as not doing exercise and being overweight.
A report published in 2005 claimed that men with ED have an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, and that ED indicates the man may have cardiovascular problems which need medical attention! There seems a direct link between ED and circulatory disorders.
This study researched men with ED and cardiovascular problems over the course of seven years, and evaluated them every three months. ED correlates with the severity of the cardiovascular condition!
